MOCK PARLIAMENT ACTIVITY
Indian Parliament is the supreme legislative body of India which comprises of the President and the two Houses - Rajya Sabha (Council of States) and Lok Sabha (House of the People).To make students understand the parliamentary procedure A MOCK PARLIAMENT SESSION was conducted by the students of Grade 9 with an aim to get deep insight into the working of parliament, to ponder over public issues and form opinions. Mock Parliament is a simulation of the parliamentary proceedings of legislature and executive, based upon the Indian Parliamentary system. It has been established to promote the activities of community service programs and to advocate social or political change. Students play the role of various parliamentarians and discuss a spectrum of issues ranging from political, economic and social problems faced in the country. As Members of Parliament holding important portfolios or as members of the opposition, the students were provided a platform to develop skills such as debating, critical thinking, technique of group discussion, understanding parliamentary procedure, drafting resolutions, developing opinion and tolerance. The students emerged as youth leaders in trying to understand the burning issues of the country and attempting to find solutions. This activity was inquiry driven, holistic, based on discussion & integration.
Activity also helped in instilling deep rooted pride in being Indian not only in thought but also in spirit, intellect and deeds & in developing knowledge, skills, values and dispositions that support responsible commitment to human rights ,global wellbeing thereby reflecting a truly global citizen.
